Rho is hiring a Staff or Principal Product Designer to own their design system—the governed, in-code frontend foundation—and the role is full-time and on-site in New York. The designer will define architecture, tokens, primitives, motion language, governance, contribution model, and standards, and will partner with frontend engineers and the design team.

- Own the design system as the governed frontend layer, including components in code, rules enforced through lint and CI, and documentation an AI agent can query and build against on spec
- Define the architecture, tokens, primitives, motion language, governance, contribution model, and standards
- Partner with the frontend guild, engineers, and the design team as equals
- Decide what a component is, how it behaves, how it moves, what it enables, and where it must not bend
- Set the craft bar for the organization and build the system that makes hitting that bar the path of least resistance
- Own surfaces end to end, including research, QA, and the fight to get it shipped right
- Use AI natively in work
What they're looking for
- At least 7 years of product design experience
- Real design systems ownership at scale (owned one, built one, governed one)
- Designs in code, or is hungry to
- Belief that Figma is not the build environment
- Serious craft in branding, typography, motion, and microinteractions and ability to defend design decisions (including easing curves)
- Can point to a visual language they built
- Thinks in primitives, states, edge cases, and two-way doors
- Moves fast, works out loud, and shares the messy middle rather than delivering late perfect work
