Staff/Lead Product Designer, Design System
Apply on ICEYEICEYE is hiring a Staff or Lead Product Designer to build its design system from nothing. The company says it has no design system today: products were shipped fast and share a brand without sharing much else. The role starts with a Figma library and a written playbook, then token architecture, then components in code with documentation. It is hands-on and sits as close to the frontend engineers as to the designers. Hybrid in Espoo with three days a week in the office, reporting to the Director of Product Design. Employment is subject to applicable security screening.
AI skillsThis role asks for AI & agentic skills, exactly what we teach at Into Design SystemsWhat you'll do
- Start with a library and a playbook and grow it into a system: a Figma library, shared foundations and written guidance first, then token architecture, components in code and documentation that scales past you
- Decide the sequence, what is a token and what is a local decision, and where the line sits between flexibility and consistency
- Co-design with frontend in the code: be in the conversation about props, state and composition, read PRs and prototype in a branch when that is the fastest way to prove a point
- Sell the system repeatedly to product managers, engineers and leadership, run office hours, and do migration work yourself when that is what unblocks a team
- Set and hold the craft bar across the whole domain, at the pixel level and in public
- Put AI to actual work on component documentation, variant generation, token maintenance, migration codemods and spec drafting
- Stay accountable for adoption, consistency, shipped UI quality and how quickly teams can build, not for the size of the Figma library
- Work across a big networked organisation with designers in other domains, brand and marketing design, sales engineers and customers
What they're looking for
- You have done 0-to-1 before somewhere messy: taken a design system from nothing to adopted in an organisation that had neither and was not yet convinced it needed one
- Fluent enough in code to be useful: reading React and CSS, understanding component APIs, running the repo locally and opening a PR without ceremony
- You can influence without authority and convince people who have their own roadmaps and deadlines
- Exceptional craft with deep command of layout systems, typography, colour and visual hierarchy applied in dense complex professional interfaces
- A real point of view on AI in design work: you have used these tools to accelerate documentation, generate and audit variants, maintain tokens or migrate code, and can say where they helped and where they made a confident mess
- You have owned UX end-to-end for complex professional products, from discovery through shipped product, with a portfolio that shows the systems thinking as well as the surfaces. Expert in Figma
- Nice to have: accessibility as a default rather than an audit
- Nice to have: experience with theming, dark mode or multi-brand systems
- Nice to have: data-dense, map-heavy or real-time interfaces
- Nice to have: public writing or open-source contribution on design systems
- Nice to have: time spent in high-stakes or regulated environments
