Thumbtack is hiring a Senior Product Designer, Design Systems for a virtual, United States-based role in the Design department. The role focuses on the experience layer of Thumbtack’s design system, Thumbprint, including patterns, flows, component compositions, and documentation. The designer will help evolve Thumbprint into a machine-readable, production-aligned system for product development across iOS, Android, and web.

What you'll do

  • Own patterns, flows, and component compositions across iOS, Android, and web
  • Design and ship reusable components with defined states, variants, responsiveness, and interaction models
  • Define and maintain platform-native interaction patterns across surfaces
  • Evolve Thumbprint to keep pace with UI patterns, platform conventions, and product needs
  • Create documentation and usage guidance, including best practices, anti-patterns, and decision frameworks
  • Enable teams to adopt and extend the design system through onboarding, critique, and hands-on partnership
  • Collaborate with technical partners on AI-driven workflows, including Claude Code, Figma MCP, and internal prototyping tools
  • Work with Engineering partners to maintain parity between Figma design components and coded implementation

  • 6+ years of product design experience, including meaningful time owning or evolving a design system at a product company
  • Deep familiarity with platform conventions across iOS, Android, and web
  • High craft bar for visual design and component work
  • Expert-level Figma skills, including component architecture, variables, tokens, and auto-layout
  • Comfortable working across the design-to-code workflow, including Storybook, design tokens, and GitHub
  • Ability to collaborate closely with engineers on implementation
  • Strong written communication skills for clear, opinionated, actionable documentation
  • Active interest in design systems in AI-driven product development
