NewUI Designer - Fintech (Design System)

They are hiring a UI Designer to join the Product Design team to lead the creation, governance and scalability of their Design System. The role involves translating Retorna's identity into components, patterns and guidelines and ensuring the system is used, maintained and grows with the product. The designer will work closely with technology teams and the Growth Marketing design team; prior fintech and digital product experience is especially valued.
What you'll do
- Design, document and maintain Design System components and patterns (typography, color, spacing, UI components, states, accessibility).
- Define system governance: who can propose changes, how components are versioned and how updates are communicated to the team.
- Collaborate closely with technology teams to ensure components are implemented faithfully in code and identify gaps between design and development.
- Work with the Growth Marketing design team so campaign pieces rely on the Design System without losing speed or creative flexibility.
- Periodically audit the system's usage in product and marketing, identifying inconsistencies and opportunities for simplification.
- Scale the system as Retorna grows to new flows, platforms and markets while maintaining visual and experience coherence.
- Design high-quality product interfaces when required, applying and providing feedback to the Design System.
What they're looking for
- 3+ years of experience in UI Design, ideally with experience leading or building a Design System from scratch or scaling an existing one.
- Previous experience in the fintech sector and digital products is highly relevant; understand the speed, regulation and ambiguity of these environments.
- Solid command of Figma, including components, variants, auto layout and shared libraries.
- Ability to communicate with technical teams about design tokens, reusable components and implementation constraints.
- Experience collaborating with marketing or growth teams, understanding that brand consistency should not slow those teams down.
- Judgement to balance consistency with flexibility, knowing when a pattern should be strict and when exceptions are appropriate.
- Autonomy to work 100% remotely in a team distributed across multiple countries.
