Product Designer, Design Systems

Assembled·San Francisco, USA
Apply on Assembled

Assembled builds a unified platform that coordinates human agents and AI for customer support and is backed by $71M from NEA, Emergence Capital, and Stripe. The company is hiring a product designer to lead the next generation of its design system, defining visual and interaction foundations, components, patterns, and reusable interaction patterns for AI-native products. The role involves partnering with a Design Systems Engineer to pioneer AI-assisted design-system workflows and extend the system through complex product problems. This is an onsite role based in the San Francisco office, five days a week (Monday–Friday).

AI skillsThis role asks for AI & agentic skills, exactly what we teach at Into Design Systems

What you'll do

  • Lead the next generation of Assembled's design system, defining visual language, interaction foundations, components, and patterns across desktop and mobile.
  • Create documentation, a contribution model, and governance for how the system evolves and is adopted by designers and engineers.
  • Define reusable interaction patterns for AI-native products for how people direct, trust, review, and collaborate with AI agents.
  • Partner with the Design Systems Engineer to use coding agents to generate production-quality UI, measure component usage and adherence, and speed design-to-implementation.
  • Work with product teams to convert solutions for data-dense, high-complexity workflows into reusable patterns that improve the product.

What they're looking for

  • 4+ years designing and shipping production B2B software, with meaningful ownership of a design system used across multiple teams or products.
  • Exceptional visual craft and a high bar demonstrated in shipped work.
  • Systems thinking and the ability to design primitives and reusable patterns that scale across a product.
  • Hands-on experience structuring Figma libraries, tokens, variables, components, and documentation for use across multiple teams.
  • Ability to collaborate with frontend engineers on component APIs, responsive behavior, accessibility, states, and implementation tradeoffs.
  • Ability to create approachable systems, explain decisions clearly, and enable other designers without becoming a bottleneck.
  • Bias toward shipping, comfort with ambiguity, and preference for user feedback and testing over perfection in isolation.
  • Excitement about AI-native design workflows and how a design system can guide and accelerate what people and agents build.
